Pacific Northwest Economic Panel

The Annual Pacific Northwest Economic Panel will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2008, at the Coast Bellevue Hotel.

Please join your local APICS and NAPM chapters, along with a panel of local experts, to recap the region's economic activity in 2007, and to look at what is on the horizon for 2008.

Panelists

  • Drew DeSilver- Drew has been a business reporter for The Seattle Times for the past 8 years. He writes about the Pacific Northwest economy, the stock market, financial services and public-company issues for the Times. DeSilver's a native of Connecticut and has a bachelor's degree in journalism and a master's degree in political science, both from Northwestern University. He also writes the weekly Sunday feature called Times Watch. Drew knows the region's diversity and interconnection personally, having lived in Coeur d'Alene and Twin Falls, Idaho and Eugene and Salem, Oregon. He now splits his time between Seattle and Portland.
  • George Erb- Currently the editor of the Puget Sound Business Journal, George has worked as a reporter and editor at weekly and daily newspapers in Washington since 1983. Erb is a past chapter president of the Society of Professional Journalists. Currently he is on the board of the Washington Coalition for Open Government and a member of the state Bench-Bar-Press Committee. He has a bachelor's degree in history from Hanover College and a master's degree in journalism from the University of Oregon.
  • Michael Parks- A native of Spokane, Michael is a journalism graduate of Seattle University and an alumnus of the University of Washington's School of Communications. Parks has been studying, writing about and speaking about the economy and companies of the Pacific Northwest for more than 30 years. Michael has been the owner, editor and publisher of Marple's Pacific Northwest Newsletter since 1980. In his spare time, he enjoys power walking, attending opera and world travel.

  • Wayne Balsinger- Wayne is a former board member of NAPM-WW having served 6 years. Wayne won the Purchasing Magazine Crystal Ball Economic Forecasting contest five time and finished second three times. He was on this panel for several years before he became moderator for the last eight years or so. When not forecasting commodity prices, he works with the SAP system. For hobbies Wayne races sailboats and fly fishes. Wayne is a Sr. Purchasing analyst at PACCAR Inc. in Bellevue.
  • Bryan Gregory- Brian is a true Seattleite, attending University Heights, John Marshall and Roosevelt H.S. before going to Western Washington University in Bellingham. From there his radio career started at KPUG, and included stops in Boise (KBOI) and Spokane (KJRB/KEZE) before returning home to Seattle in 1987. In 1993, Brian made the transition from music to news radio working at KIRO, eventually becoming the business editor on the morning show with Bill Yeend. Before joining KOMO in 2002, Brian had been programming an Internet broadcast network for local companies, theDial and Loudeye Technologies. Brian has over 25 years of real estate and stock market investment experience. He's married, living in Seattle with his wife Carol, who is a financial advisor, along with their chocolate lab and bushybutt cat.
