Project Management: Key Skills to Success in Quality Management

"All improvement takes place project by project, and in no other way" -- Dr. Joseph Juran

Program Description

Success is measured more on your ability to deliver results than on your knowledge of quality management. The fact is that most quality practitioners lead quality/process improvement projects with little awareness of the powerful techniques included in the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK). This may be part of the cause for project delays, cost overruns, or scope reductions, among a variety of project and program problems.

In an overly simplified way, I define the Six Sigma methodology as "remedial project management for TQM". After many names and fads for quality programs, Six Sigma provided a project framework within which to apply the quality engineering tools which have been around for decades.

Quality professionals can increase their success in implementing quality programs by incorporating simple but powerful Project Management techniques. Applying these techniques will help you succeed not only at the project level, but also and more importantly, at the program level.

This presentation will provide an overview of some essential project management techniques that should be in the toolbox of all quality professionals. We will skip any detail explanations of work breakdown structures and network diagrams. Instead, we will focus on key elements of the 5 essential Project Management Processes, along with key elements of the Project Management Office (PMO) which have a major impact on the success of any project or program
