March 12 PDM - Sustainability for APICS 2008

We will be holding our monthly Professional Development Meeting on Wednesday, March 12 at the Pyramid Alehouse in Seattle.

Program Description

In what we hope to make an annual event, your Puget Sound APICS Chapter brings you Sustainability for APICS 2008 for our March professional development meeting. Much has changed in the past year. You will find out the latest thinking as it applies to our field. You will learn in more detail topics introduced last year. These include corporate social responsibility as a driver and life cycle assessment (LCA) as an important technique. We will consider trends to anticipate the future as it affects our companies. Please come and plan on sharing with your fellow chapter members the progress or frustration in your company.

Reference Materials

To get the best benefit from this program check out the following articles that summarize ground covered in the past year:

  • Ron Sullivan, CFPIM. “Enduring Success: Using the APICS body of knowledge to achieve greater sustainability.” APICS magazine, September, 2007.
This article builds on the key point of last year’s conference presentation: techniques of the APICS body of knowledge make a good foundation for sustainability efforts. Examples are provided. It concludes with some thoughts on what we can anticipate in the future as the requirements of sustainability drive company change.
  • Ron Sullivan, CFPIM. “What’s Your Role?” APICS e-News, vol.7, no. 17, September 18, 2007.
“If your company is not already involved in sustainability, it soon will be.” This brief article discusses the transition from profit as our sole purpose to the triple bottom line of profit, people, and planet. This change in role is driven by company stakeholders. In the best companies, sustainability meets or makes the competition.
  • Ron Sullivan, CFPIM. “Sustainability and the APICS Professional.” Session G-1, APICS 2007 International Conference Proceedings.
This manuscript provides a brief summary of the presentation at this year’s conference, which was adapted from the presentation provided for the Puget Sound Chapter last year at this time.
