March 14, 2007 PDM - Sustainability and the APICS Professional

Program Overview

Sustainability and the natural environment have implications for the work we do as APICS professionals. In this presentation you will be provided with an introduction to the business roles in achieving sustainability. Included are these areas:

  • A brief summary of our world as our natural environment with its twelve most pressing problem areas.
  • An introduction to six of the best thinkers working on business aspects of sustainability along with implications for businesses and our field.
  • Examples of companies that are "doing well by doing good" by applying the techniques of these thought leaders.
  • An opportunity to discuss what your company is doing in this area.
  • What we might expect to see in the future. Business is a major factor in making the world more sustainable.

This will not be a "gloom and doom" session. Approaches (both emerging and in use today) help both resolve environmental problems and improve company performance. Companies can be financially profitable, socially responsible, and environmentally responsible.
